TASHI NAM - NEPAL SCHOOL PROJECT
Ein Reisebericht von Adriaan - unserem lieben Freund aus den Niederlanden
The 13th of November I had a flight from Amsterdam to Singapure and from Singapure to Kathmandu, Nepal. It took me 17 hours to arrive. I joined a group of Austrians –
one of them my lovely girlfriend - the whole trip was organised by one of them, called “Rudi”.
The main goal was to go to Tashi Nam, a small village somewhere in the mountains, where Rudi with financial and moral support by the people of Laabental, founded a school. This school was built several month before, a hell of a job, because every piece of wood, every door, every window, every nail had to be carried by the locals up to about 2.600 m high.
After a bus ride of 10 hours, partly over ways where a dog could hardly go, we arrived in our first camp, near a beautiful river, somewhere in the heart of Nepal. Early in the morning we started our trekking, an interesting walk, mainly alongside the river. The weather was wonderful and so was our mood. We had a lot of porters, strong guys carrying our heavy stuff, but also all the things meant for the new school and for the children there.
Before dark we reached our second camp, still down near the river, from which spot you could already see the goal of our trip, high in the mountains. The next day we climbed the stones that formed the steep stairs to the school. We had to do 5.000 (or more) steps. I think even for the Austrians, used to hill and mountains, this was a challenging walk. For me, coming from the lowlands of Holland, it was nearly a nightmare, but one with a very happy end.
The welcome was overwhelmin, like meeting your brother from whom you were separated for many years. The inauguration and celebrations could start. All children, and quite some parents, in their best clothes, and all the “officials” were there. It was a happening never to forget, full of joy and happiness and greatfullness and dignity - there we all experienced that money, charity and goodwill can make a miracle happen. The, in our eyes, simple building, stood there as a sparkling sign of the brotherhood of all people. Together we celebrated a great party with flowers, local drinks, with music and dance from Nepal and Austria -everybody felt wonderful. The “Laabentalschule”, founded by Rudi, was officially opened. The goal was reached. A very important goal, because education is the start of development and this is, was Nepal – one of the poorest countries in the East - needs.
When we walked down the next day – so many steps again – I couldn´t imagine that one day earlier I climbed up all these stones without dropping dead in the end. It felt great!!
This project hasn´t endet yet. Everybody can join (financially or in another way) to go on, and help to build at least one school more. Simply contact “RUDI”! ← zurück |
